Ready for paint

Yesterday I purchased the paint for the frame. After reading some posts on the web I have settled on using Dupli-Color products. These are automotive type paints available from the local car part store - Advance Auto is where I purchased my kit.

I decided to go with the Mirage color changing paints for something different. I chose the Gold/Magenta scheme. The way these paints work is off of reflected light. If the light is reflected back to you the color will be Magenta. If the light is reflected away from you the color will be gold (or vise versa).

I also picked up a can of Duplicolor self etching primer. This stuff is supposed to really "stick" to metal.

I figure I will hit the entire frame with some 400 grit paper for a quick prep. Then spray on the etching primer. Not sure if I will wet sand the primer or just get started with the color kit.

Hope to have the frame painted this week! I will post pictures of the process after it is completed.

Frame has arrived!

Okay, on Friday the frame kit arrived for my bike. I just had a few minutes over the weekend to unpack it and check it out.

First off the packing is very well done. It came all protected in foam wrap and tape inside a large cardboard box. The funny thing is that the box was recycled from a Giant diamond frame bike, Dom must have an agreement with the local bike shop to take the old boxes.

I have started investigating painting options. I am going to paint the frame myself with Duplicolor paints, which are automotive type paints in spray cans. They make some really cool color changing paints that I am going to look at. Just have to get over to Wally World to see what they have sometime.

BTW, I have been reading the blog of a fellow recumbent rider and his Sister for a while now. They document each of their rides and keep track of total mileage ridden for the year. Frame has shipped!

Just received an e-mail from Dom tonight letting me know the frame is on the way via Priority Mail. There is a slim chance it could arrive on Friday. I will post here when it arrives to let you know my first impressions.

Frame Update

Just received a nice e-mail from Dom at Bentech. He said my frame kit should ship out next Thursday!

I would expect it to arrive the week after if all goes well. Better get some chores done around the house so work can commence once I receive it! :)
